Charges and Expenses

Research Charge:
£15.00 per hour
I only charge for time spent researching.
There is no charge for compiling reports or emailing the results.


Extra Expenses:
These include the price of certificates, photocopies, travel (in some cases) and postal charges etc. Receipts become the property of the client or are scanned and emailed if you wish.

If you only require a photocopy of a particular item from a parish register or suchlike the charge for these is £5.00 per copy.

Photographic Assignments:
These vary in cost depending on length of time involved but are usually between £30.00 and £50.00 which includes cost of CD, development, charge per hour and may sometimes include research time spent finding the correct location or travel costs. Clients receive a CD (varying in number of photograghs and depending on what they need) or developed photographs according to there individual requirements.

Both research and photographic charges are £15.00 per hour or £7.50 per half hour and so on.

Usually clients, especially those from overseas email me first or post a letter including all the information they have about the particular family or families they are interested in having traced. Then I send a quote for an amount likely to bring reasonable success. For example £200.00 will be sufficient for me to do around 10-15 hours research plus pay for certificates, photocopies, travel and postal expenses.
If a small commission is required for research to locate a difficult ancestor, £50.00 will be sufficient for two hours research plus pay for photocopy and travel costs.
These two are examples only to give an idea of how much a client might expect to pay. Commissions vary of course depending on what is required and the difficulty of the assignment.
The client is in control of the amount spent and I will not go on searching any longer than my clients wish.
